D. Dinis - 6th
Portuguese king, was a very important king for Portugal , because he made important changes in the country and because our country
has entered a period of peace
It was in his
reign that the Treaty of Peace with Castile was signed delimiting the borders
of the Treaty of Alcanizes 12 of September of 1297 with the King of Leon and
Castile D. Ferdinand IV
The monarch D.
Dinis shows preference for the city of Lisbon, as a place of stay of the Court,
and its location is conducive to urban development, economic and mercantile as
these are the factors to become the capital of the Kingdom
It is thanks to
this monarch that the Portuguese Language was born, having been a great poet
and troubadour at the time
It was in his
reign that the first University of the country arose on March 1, 1290, the
first college came to settle in Lisbon and then passed to Coimbra

I would like to
make known the Portuguese legend about this queen who was very kind and
generous.
To her is
associated the Miracle of the Roses:
Myth of the
Miracle of Roses
According to
legend, the Queen left on a winter morning from the Castle of Sabugal, to
distribute bread to the most disadvantaged. Surprised by her husband who asks
her where she is going and what she carries in her lap, to which the Queen
promptly responds are roses, D. Dinis suspiciously asks roses in January ?! D.
Isabel exposes the contents of her lap and instead of bread appears indeed
roses.

This miracle is
very well known in Portugal and this was the reason I introduced you to this
part of our History
