The construction of the Mafra Convent
The Franciscan monks convinced King John V to build a monastery promising him the heir to the throne he so desired, even when a girl was born, Princess Maria Barbara in 1711, to fulfill the promise the king orders to build from Of 1717 the Convent-Palace of Mafra, a work of great magnitude and of extreme beauty that demonstrates the Portuguese real power was built thanks to 45 thousand workers, 7000 soldiers and gold from Brazil
